The Future-Cup series started on 29th September 2007 at Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore. The match was washed out without result.

The second ODI was played at Nehru Stadium,Kochi. Australia put into bat by India (after MS Dhoni, the Indian skipper won the toss) finished their innings at 306/6 in 50 overs. In reply India were all out for 222 in 47.3 overs and lost the match by 84 runs.

Both the above matches were captained by Adam Gilchrist as Ricky pointing was recovering from injury.

For the third ODI of the series at Hyderabad on 05-10-2007, Ricky Ponting looked fit during the practice session on 04-10-2007 and should be ready to resume his role in Australian team.

Indian team fresh from their Twenty20 World Cup victory under M S Dhoni's captaincy struggled to find form in the second ODI.
